HIV prevention injection proven highly effective

15 Oct 2024

New research confirmed the remarkable effectiveness of a six-monthly HIV prevention injection containing the antiretroviral drug lenacapavir, reported Spotlight (15 October 2024).
“The latest study, PURPOSE 2, has shown that the injection is highly effective at preventing HIV infection among cisgender men, transgender men, transgender women, and non-binary individuals assigned male at birth. These findings echo results from PURPOSE 1, which demonstrated similar success in women.
“Lenacapavir is already registered in some countries as a treatment for HIV but not yet for prevention.”
