The Competition Commission (CC) granted SA’s physiotherapy industry leave to pool its purchasing power for the next five years in an effort to lower prices for consumers, Business Day (14 May 2025).
However, it rejected request for physiotherapists to negotiate service fees with medical schemes collectively.
“The landmark decision grants an exemption to the SA Society of Physiotherapy (SASP), the country's leading professional body, allowing its more than 3,200 members to conduct centralised procurement for essential supplies and equipment.”
