Reuters reported on 22 May that the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Gavi vaccine alliance are exploring closer collaboration, including potential function mergers, to combat a severe global health financing crisis and deliver more efficient aid.
Discussions about more efficient collaboration have been ongoing for several years and have been accelerated by the Trump Government’s cut in government-funded aid budgets.
“With approximately 1,200 staff, the Global Fund declined to comment on potential staff reductions. Prominent health funding leaders like Bill Gates, have been actively engaging with governments to underscore the indispensable role played by these two organisations.”
