An anonymous health professional highlighted the dire situation at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, stating that patients have gone hungry, and some cannot take necessary medication on an empty stomach. – Daily Maverick (8 May 2025).
“Families and staff have stepped in, bringing or buying food for patients. While initially, staff were given no explanation, hospital management later attributed the food supply disruption to the supplier's factory facing compliance issues with their local municipality.”
According to Gauteng Health the supply delays were due to compliance problems, but the matter had been resolved.
