Migrant care puts huge pressure on Gauteng Health and the system is completely overwhelmed, yet public hospitals and clinics have no option but to treat foreign nationals,reported MedicalBrief (16 April 2025).
According to Section 4(3) of the National Health Act, free basic medical care must be provided to anyone in need, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
“Despite the Department budget being fully allocated, the system is taking serious strain and several expansion projects had been delayed, as the Government waits for final approval of the National Budget Framework.”
