Reuters reported on 7 October that American scientists Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell, alongside their Japanese colleague Shimon Sakaguchi, have been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
The prize includes a sum of 11m Swedish kronor (approximately £835,000) and a gold medal.
“Their research sheds light on how the body’s immune system distinguishes between foreign invaders and its own healthy tissues, preventing it from attacking itself.”
