Reacting on the CMS report the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), which represents GEMS, Medscheme, and others, rejected the inquiry's conclusions, labelling them "demonstrably and fundamentally flawed." - Business Day (7 June 2025).
"Unfounded claims of racial bias will not deter us - corruption is corruption and must be rooted out," said Dr Katlego Mothudi, Managing Director of the BHF.
“While rejecting the overarching finding of racial bias, the BHF did concede that some practitioners had raised valid concerns about the fairness and transparency of investigation processes. It asserted that member schemes have already initiated reforms, including educational initiatives on billing practices and scheme rules.”
