The Citizen reported on 6 March that the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital experienced gas supply interruptions from Egoli Gas due to unpaid bills of R15m.
According to Jack Bloom, the DA Gauteng shadow health MEC, the department’s “disastrous mismanagement” has led to major companies cutting off essential hospital supplies. This includes Gauteng Health’s deficit of over R7.3bn in the current financial year, which ends on 31 March. Bloom blamed “incompetent top management,” and demanded the removal of Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko and department head Lesiba Malotana.
