Decisions by Bonitas trustees questioned

14 Oct 2024

Questionable decisions by the trustees of Bonitas Medical Fund and connections with Willem Britz, the former CEO of AfroCentric Distribution Services (ADS), resulted in concerns about the medical scheme’s governance, reported Business Day (14 Oct 2024).
Bonitas trustees recently opted for a virtually unknown service provider linked to Willem Britz, the former CEO of AfroCentric Distribution Services (ADS).
“This decision is baffling, particularly considering ADS’s established infrastructure and long-standing relationship with Bonitas.”
The newly appointed provider could not deliver essential services, resulting in Sanlam apparently losing trust in the Bonitas’ board of trustees.
“Cracks have emerged in the relationship between Bonitas and Sanlam, AfroCentric’s majority shareholder. Rumours indicate that Sanlam is considering Fedhealth Medical Scheme as its strategic partner from 2025.”
