HASA suggests reviving abandoned healthcare reforms

“SA’s healthcare landscape could undergo a transformative shift if previously abandoned reforms are reintroduced,” wrote Tamar Kahn in Business Day (3 September 2024).
“According to research by the Hospital Association of SA (HASA) such reforms could lead to a more balanced and equitable healthcare system, benefiting both public and private sector users in the near term.”
If implemented, the medical scheme market could expand threefold, and the number of people dependent on state healthcare would decrease from 53.8m to 35.5m, improving overall access to care, according to the Hospital Association of South Africa (HASA).
