Gauteng reports high HIV prevalence among 50-54-year-olds

According to the latest report released by the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC), Gauteng recorded a HIV prevalence peak of 32.2% among residents aged 50 to 54, reported, Times Live 4 Sept 2024)
In 2022 there was a noticeable decrease in HIV prevalence among all age groups under 40 compared to 2017. In Gauteng an estimated 1,720,000 people were living with HIV, a negligible 0.2% decrease from the 1,780,000 reported in 2017,
“Antiretroviral treatment (ART) usage among people aged 15-49 remains lower at 72.4% compared to other age groups. The province’s coverage significantly increased, rising to 73.4% in 2022 from 56.0% in 2017. This translates to approximately 1,210,000 people living with HIV in Gauteng receiving treatment in 2022.”
