Mediclinic predicts 200 000 WC Covid-19 cases for people with health insurance

Chief executive, Koert Pretorius, said according to projections by Mediclinic’s internal actuaries and statisticians 40 000 of the 200 000 patients would need to be hospitalised, of which 10 000 would require ICU admission. A further 5 000 of the ICU patients would need to be put on a ventilator.

On April 10, the DoH told the Parliamentary health portfolio committee that the Western Cape had a little over 5 000 beds available in the private sector.
